Staffing Industry Data June 2018
Staffing Industry data for both the American Staffing Association and the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported increases from May to June in their respective reports and indexes. The ASA performs its own staffing industry research and reports on the BLS data. Below, both the BLS Economic News Release for June, and the ASA June 2018 Staffing Index numbers and trends are explored.
The numbers explored below relate to IT staffing, consulting and recruiting to give readers insight into industry trends related to Consulting Solutions International. This is not an exhaustive list of all industries. It is important to keep in mind the number reported in the BLS Economic Release are reported in the thousands.
Professional and Business Services increased by 50 from May 2018 at 20,919 to June 2018 at 20,969. Professional and Technical Services increased from 9,201.2 to 9,226.3 demonstrating an increase of 25.1.
Computer Systems Design and Related Services, and Management and Technical Consulting Services industry segments also saw increases. The first showing an increase of 6 from 2,099.5 in May 2018 to 2,105.5 in June 2018, and the later increasing from 1,442.8 in May to 1,447.6 in June.
Additional increases were seen in the Other Professional and Technical Services, and Management of Companies and Enterprises industry segments. The first seeing an overall slight increase of 1.8, with the second showing an overall increase of 5.4. Temporary Help Services also saw an increase of 9.3 from May to June 2018. May reported 3,028.7 and June increased to 3,038.0.
The BLS data for employees by industry section and selected industry detail are reported in the thousands, and are seasonally adjusted. The ASA also analyses the BLS Economic News Release data and reported a year-to-year staffing job growth average of 3.6% per month in the first six months of 2018. The ASA also reported an unadjusted 3.1% increase in staffing employees in May 2018 than in May 2017.
The American Staffing Association (ASA) touted a very strong headline of ASA Staffing Index Hits Post-Recession High for June. The ASA index had the strongest reading for the 24th week of the year since 2007. The reading reached 98 for the week of June 11th to the 17th. Another important number the ASA cited was the four-week moving average of 97. This is the highest level on 11 years during this time period.
The ASA reports its data nine days after each workweek to maintain a near real-time measurement. They use staffing industry data collected by a marketing research firm, which sends participants a secure web-based questionnaire. Their methodology is based on a model developed by Standard and Poor’s DRI/McGraw Hill in 1992.
July ASA Staffing Index will be explored when new numbers are released.
